The best way to keep dry hair moisturized is by conditioning hair two to three times per week. Investing in a good treatment is a wise way to get your hair back into shape fast.
“Coconut oil has unique properties that make it superior to other natural oils specifically for hair conditioning and protection from damaging effects such as blow drying, curling, hair dyes, UV-rays, chemical treatments“, according to Sonia Ray, author of Hair Like a Tropical Goddess.
“Cacao adds shine, volume, texture, and bounce to your hair. As a conditioner, it provides magnesium and vitamins that treat your hair from the roots to the tip“, says Kerstin Schmitt, author of Don’t Break the Bank – Best Homemade Hair Conditioners for All Seasons: DIY Conditioners to Make Your Hair Look and Smell.
How To Maintain Moisture in Dry Hair
1. Balanced diet can help with dry hair
Believe it or not, one of the main factors that keeps your hair healthy is your diet. In your daily diet, I recommend foods that hydrate your body like fruit and vegetables, which are water-based.
How to moisturize your hair by eating right
Believe it or not, your diet is one of the major factors in keeping your hair healthy. I recommend foods in your daily diet that nourish your body that is water-based like fruits and vegetables. The US Dietary Reference Recommends for women drinking 91 oz (2.7 liters) of water and men to consume 125 oz (or 3.7 liters) of water every day. Regardless of how much you like water, it is time to expand your horizons by digging into high water fruits and vegetables. Fruits and vegetables contain water and help keep you hydrated. For example, very similar to your skin, fruits and vegetables also help to moisturize your hair. Did you know watermelon and strawberries contains about 92% water? Other fruits like grapefruit contain 91% water. And cantaloupe contains 90%. Peaches contain 88% of water. You need to know fruits contain on average about 87% water. So just by eating pineapple, cranberries, oranges, and raspberries, you are consuming water. Eating fruits keeps you and your hair hydrated.
2. Use a shower cap to get the most out of your treatment and lock in moisture
To get the most out of your treatment while in the shower, wear a plastic shower cap while the treatment is still in your hair. I recommend using a shower cap like this one.
Or go disposable if you do not want to wash your shower caps after every treatment. I like these because there are no impurities, and there is no offensive odor. Each pack contains 100 disposable shower caps that do not need to be washed.
3. Pre-Shampoo treatment masque to moisturize hair
How to moisturize your hair by using the right shampoo. A great product for damaged or dull looking hair that needs a bit of recharging. I like and recommend because it softens hair and give it a bit of shine. A big plus is also it’s vegan and cruelty-free which I think is important. This is a pre-shamppo so apply to dry hair and leave on for 10 minutes, then shampoo.
Oil Treatment Before Shampoo
A fantastic way to moisture your hair is to start your washing routine with an oil treatment before you shampoo. Begin by saturating your hair in oil before shampooing. Some favorite oils are castor oil, jojoba, or sesame oil. Or you can also purchase a pre-shampoo oil treatment like R+Co Palm Springs Pre-Shampoo Treatment Masque or Leonor Greyl Paris L’Huile de Leonor Greyl Pre-Shampoo Treatment Oil for Dry or Colored Hair. You should follow the instructions for the product, but typically you will apply it to dry hair and leave it on for 10 minutes, then shampoo. Can also be used after shampooing, like a traditional hair mask, or as an extra hydrating co-wash. To get the most out of your treatment while in the shower, you can wear a plastic shower cap while the treatment is still in your hair. I recommend using a disposable shower cap, like the “Shower Cap“. While in the shower, the hot water and steam open the hair follicles. After a while, you can take off the shower cap, rinse, and then shampoo hair as normal with a good hydrating shampoo like R+Co Atlantis Moisturizing Shampoo or Moroccanoil Hydrating Shampoo. These are two of my favorites. If you are interested in reading more then you should read my other article on this site called “What type of brush is best for frizzy hair“. You may be asking what is the best hairbrush to tame frizz in your hair. Frizz and static is caused by lack of moisture in your strands, so if you are struggling with dry ends, your locks will expand to absorb hydration from the air.
4. Leonor Greyl Paris for add back moisture

Also prolongs your color without leaving hair greasy or weighted down feeling which I consider very important in a treatment oil.
5. R+Co Atlantis Moisturizing Shampoo top choice for moisture-deprived hair
A great shampoo for thick, coarse or moisture-deprived hair. Also a Vegan and Cruelty-Free shampoo in which my opinion is a big plus. If it can bring back Atlantis just imagine what it can do for your dry hair!

How to moisturize your scalp by using the right shampoo
As you know, to keep your hair healthy, you need to maintain a healthy scalp, right? So naturally, if you have been wearing styling products all week long, it’s a great idea to let your scalp breathe and wash off styling product build-up. You want to remove the layers with a clarifying shampoo, then follow up with a good moisturizing shampoo. You should try this process at least once a month for optimal scalp health. Two of my favorites are Moroccanoil Clarifying Shampoo and Redken Detox Hair Cleansing Cream Clarifying Shampoo. Both are fantastic clarifying shampoos that remove product build-up. These are clarifying shampoos that remove dry shampoo and product build-up, hard water minerals, excess oil plus, pollution residue in one use. It’s great for all hair types and hair textures.
According to Aurora Alessandrini, and the article called Essential of Hair Care Cosmetics, “Conditioning molecules contained in shampoos combine the cleansing action with the function to impart manageability, gloss and antistatic properties of the hair. This conditioning shampoos are composed by fatty substances, like vegetable oils, wax, lecithin an lanolin derivatives, collagen, animal proteins, quaternium ammonium compounds or cationic polymers (which are the main component of the “2 in 1 shampoo”) and silicone, that reduce the friction obtained by combing the hair, and then the risk of hair shaft damage.”
7. Moroccanoil Clarifying Shampoo for rehydrating
Use the right shampoo for moisturizing your hair. I recommend because it removes layers of styling products from your hair in which you should do at least once a week depending on how much you use. It cleanses and resets your hair creating a fresh style while rehydrating and nourishing your hair. Perfect product to keep you hair healthy.

Work in the moisture treatment with the right hairbrush
When in the shower and you are using a moisture treatment, gently work the conditioner with your fingers or use a wide-tooth comb. The first step is to section off your hair in at least four sections and work any tangles free using your fingers. Next, use a wide-tooth comb or brush and disperse treatment in your hair. And last, follow up with a good detangling brush that will not cause damage to your hair. Start at the ends and work your way up to the roots. Two of my favorite brushes for tangles are The Wet Brush for folks who have normal to medium-fine hair and, for folks who have thick curly hair, I prefer the Denman 9 Row Brush.
Are you still using the same old brush that you bought a long time ago? Are you considering upgrading to a boar brush or a bamboo brush but aren’t sure which is best for you? The benefits and drawbacks of each will be discussed in this article: HairBrushy Article: Boar bristle brush vs bamboo brush

No need to set the temperature, because it automatically uses the right temperature. Ghd did research and came up with the best temperature to straighten hair and made the ghd Glide. The ghd Glide only has one temperature setting, making it the simplest and easiest hair straightener to use. When you turn on the brush, it automatically heats to 185 degrees Celsius or 365 degrees Fahrenheit. This is the perfect temperature required for shaping the hair, causing no damage. Minimize heat when styling
The overuse of straightening brushes can cause your hair to dry out and become brittle. In some extreme cases, the overuse of straightening tools can cause split ends and hot spots in your hair.
